An Chic Orthodox Wedding at Santorini

Ah, a romantic elopement to the magical island of Santorini… I have cherished this location since I took my first steps here as a destination wedding photographer in Greece. Well, Santorini is one of the most romantic destinations on earth; this mythical island can take your breath away with its multicolored cliffs and wild volcanic sculptures soaring above a sea-drowned caldera… No wonder Lindsay and Alex chose this gem of the Aegean Sea for their Orthodox wedding in Greece!

A splash of romance

Once upon a time… Lindsay met Alex at a mutual friend’s birthday party, and it didn’t take long to figure out that they both had a passion for travel. As Lindsay says, “Over the years we visited many countries in Asia and Europe. During one of our trips to Europe, Alex surprised me with a long weekend in Venice, Italy. And there… he proposed!” Since Lindsay and Alex are both Orthodox and wanted an adventurous "big day", it only made sense to have a destination wedding in Santorini!

The Engagement Photo Shoot

Probably one of the biggest decisions my lovely brides-to-be make about their engagement sessions is what to wear. My first piece of advice is always to dress it up a little bit! Go big! Have you always dreamed about wearing a royal dress, a majestic tulle skirt or a flower crown? Now’s the time! And what about colors? Well, prefer coordinating colors, not matching. And choose your colors based on the location your shoot will be in. For example, if you are going to be in a park, a forest or the mountains, don’t wear green!

Lindsay chose a beautiful and really photogenic red dress with a very long train… and the result was just stunning! As she says, “ I felt like a princess and many people told me the photos looked straight out of a magazine!

Against the stunning backdrop of the caldera in Santorini, the profound love of this couple made this engagement shooting such a lovely celebration! Did I mention that my favorite images are the ones in which the sweet bride-to-be is gazing into her man’s eyes; this genuine and heartwarming emotion is why I truly love being a destination wedding photographer!

The engagement session also helped the couple to learn to relax in front of the camera, and it gave them an idea of what to expect on the wedding day.

The Wedding Photo Session

Getting married doesn’t mean you always have to be an adult, right? Before all the glitz and glamour of the dresses, tuxedos, and jewelry, some more casual photos with friends and relatives are always cherished. After all, there’s nothing like carefree innocence… That’s what I captured when Lindsay and Alex were getting ready! Documenting all those behind-the-scenes moments was really fun!

And then… the ceremony. White and pink flowers, earthy and blush tones, a chic blue costume for my groom & an impressive wedding gown for my bride, and stunning sea views complement perfectly the golden colors of the Greek sunlight, proving that beauty lies in the simplest of things!

Lindsay and Alex's summery, romantic wedding day was something out of a fairy tale. Listening to crashing waves and feeling that summer breeze, you could feel the happiness and love surrounding this couple. And the breathtaking volcanic landscape, offering every wedding photographer in Santorini, the chance to get dramatic photographs, became the absolute backdrop of some great photos.

Wedding Photography in Santorini

When you book a wedding photographer in Santorini, you don’t just rent a camera. As Alex says, “ The wedding planning seemed to be overwhelming as neither of us had been to Greece before and wouldn’t have the opportunity to visit until our wedding. The wedding day was, of course, stressful but Eleni was with us every step of the way; helping us with last-minute issues and making sure everything ran smoothly !”

Well, as a professional Santorini wedding photographer, I can suggest the right places for a perfect wedding photoshoot according to the season, the time and the natural light, and help with anything to make sure that you are going to get some whimsical wedding photographs.
